Colors
We currently have 20 different colors. You can preview them in the Riso Simulator below.
We also carry custom inks that are more expensive but very bright and unique. We marked them with a *.
Opacity
The Riso can print different shades of a single color from one file. You can achieve this by using different opacities in your grayscale file.
The higher the opacity is in your file, the bigger the dots will be or the closer they will be clustered, so the color will appear darker / more intense.
If you would like printed color samples, you can pick them up at our studio!
Texture
One signature characteristic of the Risograph is that the prints have a specific texture and tactile quality. Let us break that down for you in technical terms.
The Risograph can print with halftones or graintouch.
Halftones create different opacities or gradients with dots, which either vary in size or in spacing. It is measured in lpi (line per inch) between 30-120.
Graintouch creates different opacities or gradients with tiny dots that all have the same size – they cluster together to create darker or more intense coloring.
If you don’t give us any specification, we will use the following settings:
- Graintouch (Dither): digital illustrations or scanned artworks with a lot of texture or gradients (f.e. watercolor or acrylic paintings)
- 90 lpi: full color photography reproduction
- 43 lpi: extensive ink coverage or “newspaper look”.
- 116 lpi: small text
You can preview some textures in the Riso Simulator.
